EGEF Grants Funding for Theater Tech

The stage is not just a platform; it’s where magic happens, where stories come to life, and where our community comes together to celebrate the arts. Thanks to the generous grant from the East Greenwich Educational Foundation (EGEF), EGHS Avenger Theater will soon be able to install a state-of-the-art control board for the tech booth. The control board allows our student technicians to design, program, and cue specific lighting and effects at precise moments, ensuring that the audience’s experience is seamless and immersive – all at the push of a button.

A theatrical control board provides complete control of conventional lighting and robotic moving lights, LEDs and media servers with multiple playback faders and cue lists.

“It is a unique and innovative program that will get even more innovative as students get the chance to learn the newest equipment, including programmable robotic lights.”

Rob Petrucci, Director

Through their support, the EGEF is not only enhancing our facility for district-wide use; they are enabling Avenger Theater students to learn how to fully manage the tech side of a show or event from start to finish. Student technicians create and execute the cues with the performers, and run all the lights, sounds, and sound effects. EGHS students are learning all of these skills hands-on, with multiple opportunities for growth.

“It is a unique and innovative program that will get even more innovative as students get the chance to learn the newest equipment, including programmable robotic lights,” said Rob Petrucci, director of the Avenger Theater program. “Students help to design every cue in every show.  To execute a cue in a show can take up numerous amounts of students  working together on stage and in the tech center.  As a cue is called, lighting, sound and movements of actors and scenery can be happening all at the same time, completely executed by students.  Students have been given the opportunity to direct, come up with a light design and a sound design because we have the equipment to do it.  When equipment fails and breaks, student access and experiences are limited.”

We are deeply grateful for the support from the EGEF to update our technical equipment and our student experience. Together, we will continue to make our Avenger Theater space a vital center for advanced training and student excellence.
